"Talent equals purpose" is a major misconception that most people often fall for when seeking to discover their purpose on earth.
Your purpose in life is tied to the will of God for you on earth, and so one way the devil will try to shift your attention from your true purpose is through distraction. Distracting you from what truly matters.
He tries to shift your focus from your end goal to the means to the end.
I will explain. There are people who are multi-talented, and these talents have been assigned to us by God for a purpose. These talents are a means to an end; they are not the end goal. They are tools that will help you in fulfilling the ultimate assignment. If you focus on one of these talents as the end goal, you will never discover your true goal.
That you are artistic and have an eye and hands for perfection does not ultimately mean that you were destined to be an artist or somewhere in the arts world. These skills are also very useful in the medical field for recreating and perfecting parts of the body that have been disfigured. “So why do I know how to draw?” I also wondered why I was made to draw and label a female Anopheles mosquito in 7th grade. Lol! Well, it turns out that visualization is the beginning of most medical processes. Visualization sharpens memory. Creativity is not only meant to be actualized on inanimate objects such as paper or a board. The human body is a very beautiful canvas, a work of art that needs continuous study and maintenance.
What about singing? That you have a lovely voice does not mean you should go full-time into it. There are people destined to be singers, but we should not mistake the talent for the calling. There are engineers who sing better than some famous artists out there. There are different dimensions and uses of singing talent. It's not just for awards or accolades. David did not play for Saul because he was the best musician in the kingdom. The king already had people to do that. The Bible records that every time David played, the evil spirit that disturbed Saul was silenced. But did David remain as Saul's musician? No! Many of us would have seen David's situation as our final bus stop and utmost upliftment from God, but that was not the end; that was God’s means to an end. That was his introductory gate pass to royalty. He was not destined to remain the king's musician; he was destined for the throne.
You will find your talents and passion useful at one point or another on your journey to purpose, but you must never place them as the end goal.
Never mistake your talent for purpose.
Your most pronounced talent may not always be in line with your main purpose, and the ones you find less pronounced may be the most useful in the time to come if developed to their full potential. There is always more to what meets the eye. Some talents are not as physical, expressive, or appreciated as singing, dancing, sports, and arts, but they are critical to you fulfilling your purpose on earth.
This is also why some people think they are not talented. Don’t let the world fool you. Your ability to put others first while not ultimately neglecting yourself is a talent. Your expressive nature and ability to articulate ideas are a talent. Your unexplained love for God is a talent. Your unforced people skills are a talent. That you are always able to pull yourself and others out of tight situations is a talent.
Anything that comes naturally to you and can improve your life on earth and those around you is a talent. So before you conclude that you have no talent, dig deeper. The best ones often happen to come with a deeper root. And no, you don’t have just one talent. We are all blessed with several gifts to make us useful to our world in one way or the other. We were made in God's image and carry His creative abilities to bless humanity.
The only way to know your true purpose is not by discovering your talents. Discovering your talents is only truly useful when you know what to use them for.
To know your true purpose, you have to seek the Creator. He put you on earth and knows why He did. He also knows all that He has placed in you to fulfill it. So if you have that ultimate question right now, there is only one person to ask: God. Your purpose is from God, by God, for the people. Your journey to purpose fulfillment starts with God. Your purpose reflects one of God's natures to help humanity. He has given you a piece of that ability as a co-creator to maintain His creation. You cannot find anything that belongs to God without God. You can only find your purpose in Him.
Take time to seek Him instead of continuing your unfruitful pursuit of talent. If you ask in sincerity, you will receive in sincerity through any means possible. Just ask!
